SKYROS > OVERVIEW

Skyros is the southernmost island of the Northern Sporades. It is located at the east of Evia and is the most inhabited island of the complex, numbering about 1,800 residents. The island, in its most part is mountainous, having a cool climate during summer and mild winter with minimal rainfall.

The capital is Skyros or Hora and it is located on its eastern coast. It is about 10 km far from Linaria, the main harbour of the island is located in the middle of the west coasts. The city of Skyros is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill, in the shadow of a medieval castle and the Byzantine monastery of Agios Georgios Skyrianos. It is considered a distinctive Aegean city having an exceptional architecture and a unique local colour.

Near the capital is the settlement of Magazia with an outstanding beach. In the south are Molos and Pera Kambos. Between Skyros and Linaria there is the resort of Aspous. Linaria except for its commercial importance is a picturesque amphitheatrically built settlement with an extraordinary tourist growth.

The island's tourism infrastructures are well developed. In Hora and in the coastal regions there are many hotels and rooms providing whatever one may need.
