Patmos Greek Islands Dodecanese Greece

Patmos is the northernmost island in the Dodecanese group and is located north west of Leros and south west of Samos. It is characterized as 'The Island of Revelation' as Agios Ioannis the Theologian, wrote the Revelation in the Cavern of Revelation in 95 AD.

Skala is the harbour of Patmos and built in its bay, where most of the visitor activity takes place. Just a short distance from the harbour is scenic Hora, the capital of the island, with its labyrinth of lanes, gardens, arches, galleries, mansions and pretty shops that compose one of the most dreamlike settings of the Greek islands.

Charming beaches are located in the east and south parts of the island with Psili Ammos considered as the best. The sandy beach of Grigou has shallow waters; Kambou Cape has white sand as do the beaches of Apollos, Livadaki and Kalogiron.

More important sights of Patmos are the Monastery of Agios Ioannis the Theologian, the Cavern of Revelation, the Monastery of Zoodohou of Pigis and the ruins of the acropolis of the ancient capital of island.
