SIKINOS > OVERVIEW

Sikinos is one of the smaller islands in the Cyclades, located in the cluster between Ios and Folegandros. The island covers an area of 41 km² and has 300 permanent residents.

The main villages are Horio and Kastro with whitewashed stone houses and narrow picturesque alleys.

Sikinos was a barren islet for many years thus maintaining its natural character away from tourism. Today, its natural beauty, simplicity and peacefulness combined with the hospitable nature of its residents attacts many visitors. It does not have many beaches; the largest is in Alopronia close to the harbour of the island. Farther along are the beaches of Dialiskari and Agios Georgios. The ruins of the Bishopric Abbey, which had been built with materials from the ancient city of Sikinos, is worth a visit.
