SIFNOS > OVERVIEW

Sifnos is in the cluster of the western Cyclades among the islands of Serifos, Kimolos and Antiparos covering an area of 74 km² and has a permanent population of 2,000.

It is one of the most enchanting of the Cycladic islands maintaining its authentic character: stone built houses, dry stone walls, cobbled roads and windmills. Platis Gialos is the largest beach of the Cyclades. Authentic local cuisine can be sampled in the restaurants and tavernas. There are local pottery workshops selling their wares. In recent years many excellent guesthouses have been erected for the growing number of visitors to the island.

Apollonia is the capital and is built on a hill in the centre of the island. Neighbouring Artemona has pretty houses, the magical Kastro, picturesque Vathi, Faro (Lighthouse) with its beautiful beach, traditional Exampela and the Hersoniso with beautiful tavernas and ceramic pottery workshops. Kamares is the harbour of the island and a tourism centre.
