MILOS > OVERVIEW
The island of Milos came into being after volcanic activity and has an impressive colourful rocky landscape with it equally impressive colourful beaches and rocky coasts. Its rocks and mines were important wealth-producing sources in prehistoric years, 2300 BC. The residents of the Fylakopis settlement in the north-eastern corner of island thrived by trading in obsidian, a hard rock with which knives, arrows and other tools were manufactured.
Today it is a well-developed tourist island with an airport, a large harbour, many hotels and rooms and services for visitors. The Milos Archaeological Museum exhibits many of the island's discoveries, but the most precious of all is the Venus of Milos exhibited in the Louvre Museum, Paris.
