Ios, or Nios as it is called by the locals, is a relatively small island located among the islands of Santorini, Paros and Naxos. This pretty island belongs to the Cyclades group in the Aegean.

In antiquity Ios was one of the islands that claimed to be the birthplace of Homer, the epic poet, and in particular it is believed that he was buried here. The island owes its names to the Iones tribe, but it was previously known as Finiki after the Phoenicians who had conquered it.

Almost all the residents on the island live in picturesque Hora that is amphitheatrically built on the side of a hill to the east of the harbour. Younger visitors prefer Mylopota with its sandy beach, hotels, rooms to rent and a well-organised camping area. Other beaches are: Agios Theodoti Magnari and Vathi.
